Replacing The Doors On Your Shower

Blog

The doors that are on your shower or tub may need replacing if they are old. Over time, the doors can start to become harder to clean, and they can wear, causing them to not work as well as they did when they were new. Replacing them with new doors offers you many advantages and can make the room look nicer.

Leaking Doors

One of the common problems people run into with older shower doors is leaking around the seal on the doors. On tub units, there is a seal along the edge of the doors, so when the door is closed, the two doors seal and water should not escape. On standup showers, the seal is on the door frame, and the door will close against the seal.

As the doors get older, those seals can start to wear and may not work as well as they initially did. While some times replacing the seal is the easiest solution, not all doors have replaceable seals, so you may have a hard time finding the seal if you can get one at all.

Outdated Style

If the doors on your shower are original, they may be obsolete, and you may want to update them just to add some new styling to the room. For many people, the time to do that is when they are doing a renovation of the bathroom. Matching the doors to the new fixtures and colors in the bathroom may make a significant difference in the way the room looks when the renovation is complete.

New Doors

Finding new doors for your tub or shower is not difficult. You can buy complete door kits at most of the large home centers, and there are many different options to consider. The door kits are typically complete kits that have everything needed to install them properly, and most homeowners can do the work themselves.

The other option is to have a glass company install new doors for you, but this is going to be a little more costly. If you are using a contractor to renovate, you can have them install the doors as well. The doors you buy from a glass company may be heavier than doors you buy at the home center, and if you need a custom shape or design from your doors, the glass company can handle that for you.

No matter how you go about installing the new doors on your shower or tub, picking a style that fits the room is the first step. Take your time and look at several options before you make your final selection, so you are happy with the look and performance of the doors for many years to come.

Garage Renovation: Choosing a New Door

I liked everything about my newly-purchased home with the exception of the garage door. The old swing type door didn't work for me. It took too much time and effort to open, and the door was a little too heavy for some of the family members. That's when I decided to talk with a contractor. With his help, I chose a remote controlled rolling door. Once it was in place, it was easy to see how convenient this was for our family. There was no lifting and no getting out of the car in the rain to open the door. Since it came with a manual override mechanism when the power was out, it was perfect. If you are thinking about installing a new garage door, let's talk. I'll tell you what I learned along the way and why I chose an overhead door for my garage.
